FUN FACT: The Atlanta Labor Day Celebration boasts the second largest parade in Cowley County.

Located in northeastern Cowley County is the county’s prime example of rural living — Atlanta. The community, which was incorporated in 1885, was founded as a cattle-shipping station along the Frisco Railroad. Agriculture continues to play a vital role in its local economy. 

Atlanta residents are vested in their community. The fire department boasts 23 volunteers and an impressive inventory of equipment that is used to protect and serve the 180-square-mile district. Recent improvements include the addition of $500,000 in equipment to the fire department and $30,000 in the updating of Couch Memorial Park. The community may be small, but it is large at heart. It is not only a safe, rural setting in which to raise a family, but is easily accessible to those traversing the county and neighboring Wichita for pleasure and employment. 

Atlanta offers many opportunities for all demographics through its various organizations, churches, new schools and recreation commission. Population of 195 according to the 2010 census. School district is Central USD 462.

Atlanta Labor Day
 Atlanta Labor Day Festival is held every year during Labor Day Weekend with lots of events and activities! This annual event is a historic part of the City of Atlanta, and provides the opportunity for all residents, families, and general public to learn more about the history of the founding of the town, and to catch up with old friends, make new friends, and enjoy a wide variety of exciting events for all ages. Come and enjoy an old-fashioned celebration with a modern flare on Labor Day Weekend! Our goal is to celebrate the past, the present, and the future! 

Hunting in Cowley County 
Hunting in Cowley County and the surrounding areas offer premier options for hunting upland and timberland prairie game. Whether it's whitetail deer or bobwhite quail, this area has excellent habitat. Popular game include turkeys, ducks and geese, doves, coyotes, squirrel, bobcats and other small-game animals. Hunters can find free access to public lands or pay to hunt on private lands.
