Crime Stoppers

Cowley County Crime Stoppers was founded in May of 1987 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to do something about crime in Cowley County.  They wanted to find a way to assist law enforcement in combating crime.  Thus Cowley County Crime Stoppers was born.

The Cowley County Crime Stoppers Board of Directors is made up of citizens from all parts and communities of Cowley County.  Three Law Enforcement Officers from the Arkansas City Police Department, Winfield Police Department and the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office act as advisors to the Board.  They do not have a vote in the Board’s actions.

The concept developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Donations of airtime, newspaper space, and reward monies have established Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime in the area. To date, over 1100 arrests and over $3 million in property and seized narcotics recovered.
