Lead is extremely toxic and is especially harmful to developing children. Any amount of lead exposure can have negative consequences and there is no safe level of lead in the body. It can cause permanent damage to the brain and nervous system leading to slowed growth, delayed development, learning difficulties, and damage to hearing and speech.

Lead Poisoning in Cowley County
Much of the housing stock in Cowley County consists of older homes built before 1960, when the use of lead-based surface coatings was very common. Due to this fact, all individuals in Cowley County are at a greater risk of lead exposure and lead poisoning.

Since much of Cowley County's housing consists of older homes, lead exposure is much more likely, especially if renovations are taking place.
