Much of the housing stock in Cowley County consists of older homes built before 1960, when the use of lead-based surface coatings was very common. Due to this fact, all individuals in Cowley County are at a greater risk of lead exposure and lead poisoning.

Since much of Cowley County's housing consists of older homes, lead exposure is much more likely, especially if renovations are taking place.
